Welcome to Canine And
Company’s Training Academy!
All of our
training is done with Positive Reinforcement techniques. Janelle
Dorsey is the Dean of our Training Academy. She has had 9 years of
diverse animal experience, including Daycare/Kennel Manager, Vet
Assistant, and Obedience Instructor. Janelle has studied several
aspects of animal health and behavior through continuing education
seminars, which included such things as canine handling, body
language and is a participant in the UB Mini-Vet school seminars.
She has also studied with Pia Silvani CPDT and Sue Sternburg.
Janelle is a member of APDT (Association of Pet Dog Trainers), a
PCSA (Pet Care Services Association) Certified Pet Care Technician (CPCT),
a certified AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator, and is American Red
Cross Certified in Animal CPR and First Aid. Janelle has also
conducted seminars on Dog Learning Behavior and Problem Behavior
Solving with Tyler Muto of K-9 Connection.
Programs Available
Free
Puppy Socialization (Every Monday Night
6:30- 7:30pm)
(For puppies up to 6 months of
age who have received their 2nd Distemper/Parvo Vaccines and the
Bordetella Vaccine.)

Socialization is a very important part of a puppy’s development so
we offer this free program to assist in your efforts to socialize
your puppy. This program is one hour of free puppy play and
socialization. They will learn how to have fun and interact with
other dogs and people in a new environment. It is also a good way to
share tips and advice on raising your new bundle of joy with the
obedience instructor, staff and other puppy owners.
* Group classes run for
approximately one hour and the class size is limited to 6 students
to ensure everyone is able to receive individual attention.
Puppy
Kindergarten ($110.00)
(For puppies up to 6 months of
age who have received their 2nd Distemper/Parvo Vaccines and the
Bordetella Vaccine.)

This
is a 6-week course where you and your puppy will learn all the basic
commands, (Sit, Stay, Down, Leave It, Walking on Leash, Polite
Greeting, Place, and Recall). We will cover problem behaviors that
sometimes arise with a new puppy, like potty training, play biting,
and jumping. Puppy classes are a great way to socialize your puppy
and family participation is strongly encouraged.
Basic
Obedience ($135.00)
(For Dogs 5 months and older with
current Distemper/Parvo, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines.)

This
is a 7-week course that will teach your dog to listen and obey your
commands the first time, and help build a leadership role in your
relationship with your dog. We cover Sit, Down, Stay, Recall,
Walking on Leash, Leave It, Polite Greeting, Wait, Place and any
behavioral problems that you might be having with your dog and how
to prevent them in the future. Family participation is strongly
encouraged.
Private
Lessons ($50.00 within 6 miles of the training facility, all
others please call for pricing)
(For dogs of any age)

The
content of each private lesson is planned around you and your dog’s
individual needs. This is a great course for the extreme dog that
needs a lot of one on one attention or for when you are having
specific problems like potty training, jumping, or want basic
obedience on a one on one basis. The times and days of private
lessons are based on the client’s needs and availability, and the
lessons are taught in a private setting.
Canine
Boot Camp (Call for pricing)
(For dogs of any age with current
Distemper/Parvo, Bordetella, and Rabies Vaccines)

This
is a program that lasts up to 3 weeks depending on your dog’s
individual needs. The dog is dropped off at the
Training
Center Monday through Friday for the entire day. Your dog will be
trained each morning from approximately 9am-12pm and will have the
opportunity to enjoy the rest of the day in daycare. Playing the
second half of the day will ensure a tired pup at the end of the day
so you shouldn’t have to worry about any behavioral problems when
you get home. This program is designed to address your dog’s
individual needs and abilities. Your dog will learn all of the basic
commands and how to follow your directions the first time,
every-time. We will also cover any specific problem behavior you
might be experiencing with your dog. This program includes a lesson
at the time of pick up each week. All interested family members are
encouraged to participate in this lesson at the training facility so
the trainer can go over all of the information your dog has learned
that week. There will be homework assignments given each week to
better instill the commands learned at the training facility. 3 week
programs include one private in-home follow up lesson to evaluate
your dog’s progress.
Prep-School (Call for pricing)
(For dogs of any age with current
Distemper/Parvo, Bordetella, and Rabies Vaccines)

This
is a program that lasts up to 4 weeks, where your dog is boarded and
trained daily at our Training Facility. Your dog will learn all of
the basic commands and how to follow your directions the first time,
every-time. We will also cover any specific problem behaviors your
dog may be exhibiting. This is a great way to have a well behaved
dog without you doing all the training yourself but it does involve
commitment on your behalf to follow through with all of the training
commands and reinforcement when you take your dog home. This course
includes 1 private lesson at our facility when you pick up your dog,
to go over everything your dog has learned and how you will follow
up at home with the proper commands and reinforcement. Programs that
last 2 or more weeks also include 1 private, in-home lesson to
follow up on your progress and the dog’s training level.
* If your dog is over 7 months
and is not spayed/ neutered or cannot participate in daycare due to
being under-socialized, there will be an additional fee for Boot
Camp or Prep- School.
AKC
Canine Good Citizen ($100.00)
(For dogs of any age who have a
strong knowledge of the basic commands, with current Distemper/
Parvo, Bordetella, and Rabies. A prior obedience class is
recommended.)

This
is a 6-week course in which the first 5 weeks you will practice all
of the skills needed to pass the Canine Good Citizen test and work
on any problem areas. In week 6 you will take the AKC CGC exam with
a certified evaluator. The test includes accepting a friendly
stranger, sitting politely for petting, appearance and grooming,
walking on a loose leash, coming when called, reaction to another
dog, reaction to distractions, and supervised separation. Your
dog must be people and dog friendly.
Adult
Socialization ($30.00 for 2 hours and $45.00 for 4 hours)

This
program is intended for shy or fearful dogs that need help
acclimating to a social setting (dogs & people). Dogs will be
introduced to group activity slowly under our training staff‘s
supervision. Dogs are accepted on an individual case by case basis.
